Herbs up to 100 cm tall, stems apparently solitary, erect, woody, pubescent, non-glandular. Leaves petiolate, petioles up to 1 mm long, ovate to broadly elliptic, 14–22 × 6–9 mm, margin crenate in the upper half, 3–10 teeth per side, teeth ca. 1 mm long; apex obtuse, base rounded; membranous, pubescent, non-glandular. Inflorescence a raceme, erect, pedicels thin, 4–7 mm long. Bracts equal along inflorescence, sessile, ovate to elliptic, 4–10 × 6–8 mm, margin dentate in the upper half, 1–5 teeth per side, teeth ca. 1 mm long, apex obtuse, base attenuate. Calyx campanulate without dots on the surface, 4–7 × 4–5 mm, lobes broadly ovate, 1–3 mm long, margin entire, apex obtuse, pubescent, nonglandular. Corolla funnelform ventricose, 30–40 × 9–12 mm, bilabiate, upper lip 7–15 mm long, lower lip 5–10 mm long, lobes 3–4 × 2–3 mm; red, pubescent, non-glandular. Stamens exserted 4, filaments not seen, anthers ca. 3 mm. Style and stigma not seen. Capsule ovoid, 7–10 × 5–7 mm, glabrous. Seeds not seen.
Etymology: —The name of this species honors L. Paray who collected the type specimen.
Distribution and Ecology: —This species is endemic to Estado de México ( Fig. 12G View FIGURE 12 ). The type of vegetation found in the municipality where the holotype was collected is pine and oak forest. The elevation registered for the species is 2500–2700 m. It was searched in the type locality in November 2019, but it was not found.
Phenology: —Flowers and fruits are known from November.
Examined specimens: — MEXICO. Estado de México: Sultepec, 2700 m, 01 November 1970, Matuda et al. 38092 (MEXU!); Cerro de las Víboras, cerca de Sultepec, 2500 m, 2 November 1956, L. Paray 2242 (ENCB!).
