A Black brotula, Bythitidae ( Fig. 2E View Figure 2 ), was observed and photographed by S. Le Bris while scuba diving on 24 Aug 2019 at Jardin de Sausset (Sausset-les-Pins, 43.3278°N, 5.1016°E, Mediterranean Sea) at 14 m depth. This individual measured about 6 cm TL. Other observations were also regularly made at night between 5 and 15 m depth in the Marseille area. This speleophilic species is uncommonly observed and the scarcity of records may be related to its cryptic habitat and nocturnal activity GoogleMaps .
