Description. Male (Fig. 1). Measurements (n = 5): Body length 19.8–25.2 mm. Length of wing 12.6–15.2 mm. Length of fore basitarsomere 1.3–1.4 mm. Length of hind femur 5.3–6.4 mm. Head (Figs 5–6). Black in ground color; antenna dark orange or yellowish brown except style tinged blackish brown; ratios of antennal segments in length, scape (as 1):pedicel: postpedicel:style = 1:0.7:3.5–4.0:1.7–2.2; mystax pale yellow, with 14–22 setae (Fig. 5); proboscis light brown. Thorax yellowish brown in ground color; scutum with 3 brown distinct stripes (Fig. 7); scutellum with sparse reddish brown setae on disc, reddish brown setae on posterior margin; katepisternum and half of posterior anepimeron with blackish brown markings. Wing (Fig. 11). 3.9–4.1 times as long as wide; basal section of M 2 1.3–1.7 times as long as m -m; vein CuA 2 + A 1 rarely absent.

Legs: Fore and mid coxae with sparse golden setae on anterior portions; anterior half of mid coxa blackish brown marking; fore tibia with single row of 5–6 reddish brown to brown ventral setae; apical 1/3 mid tibia with 1 long reddish brown seta on ventral side; hind femur 7.5–8.0 times as long as wide; hind tibia with 5–6 reddish brown to brown dorsal setae in single row; empodium brown. Abdomen blackish brown in ground color, covered with reddish brown to black setae; tergite I and II dark yellowish brown to blackish brown in ground color, golden tomentose; tergite I with black setae and reddish brown setae on posterodorsal margin; tergite I to VII with sparse golden setae in posterolateral position. Genitalia (Figs 13–15, 19–20). Epandrium weakly rounded apex (Figs 13–14); surstylus tapered to apex (Fig. 15); basal half of dorsal aedeagal sheath weakly curved (Fig. 20); lateral ejaculatory process gradually tapering towards rounded apex (Fig. 19); basal half of ejaculatory apodeme narrow (Fig. 20).

Female (Fig. 2). Similar to male except: Measurements (n = 5): Body length 21.0– 25.7 mm. Length of wing 14.3–16.9 mm. Length of fore basitarsomere 1.1–1.5 mm. Length of hind femur 5.5–6.6 mm. Ratios of antennal segments in length, scape (as 1):pedicel:postpedicel:style = 1:0.7–0.9:3.8–4.5:1.7–2.1; hind femur 7.2–8.0 times as long as wide; Wing 3.7–4.1 times as long as wide; basal section of M 2 1.2–1.6 times as long as m -m. Spermatheca (Fig. 23). Lateral reservoir long, apex broad and rounded, sometimes subtruncate.

Distribution. Amami Islands (Amamioshima Is. and Tokunoshima Is.), Kagoshima Pref., Japan.

Biology. Unknown.

Etymology. The species is named after the Amami Islands in Japan, where the holotype specimen was collected.

Remarks. This new species was treated as an undetermined species of Lagynogaster by Nagatomi et al. (2002: 10).
