Diplazium macrophyllum Desv., Mém. Soc. Linn. Paris View in CoL 6: 280. 1827.
Range: — Costa Rica and Panama, Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia (BE, CO, LP).
Ecology: —Moderately common; terrestrial in wet forest, often in ravines, along streams, and river banks, also on swampy ground; 200–1700 m.
Notes: —The buds in the axils of the distal pinnae often develop into small plantlets while the bearing leaves are still healthy. Juveniles of this species have much less deeply incised pinnae, the distal pinna being entire or crenate, and the proximal pinnae merely shallowly lobed less than half their width and lacking the much longer, falcate segments of full-sized specimens; juveniles may also lack buds.
