status

sp. nov.

Diplazium bombonasae Rosenst., Repert. View in CoL Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 7: 294. 1909.

Range: —Eastern Andean slope from Ecuador to Bolivia (LP); rather common in the northern part of its range.

Ecology: —Rare, known from a single Bolivian collection: Solomon 17406 (MO); terrestrial in humid forests, in humus and on lateritic soils, often on steep rocky banks above streams and rivers; 1400 m.

Notes: —Pinnae vary from essentially entire to shallowly or deeply lobed. Jiménez 4148 (LPB) has a well-developed apical bud, which is atypical of this species and might point towards its placement in Diplazium caracasanum (Willd.) Kunze ex T.Moore , known especially from Venezuela, where it is common, but sporadically in Ecuador, and Peru. Relationships with D. petiolulatum need further study.
