Range: —Antilles; southern Mexico to Bolivia (BE, CH, CO, LP).
Ecology: —Uncommon; terrestrial in humid forests, often in wet ravines or on river banks; 200–1600 m.
Notes: —A variable species that is closely related to, and ill-defined from, D. tabalosense and several species that have not yet been recorded in Bolivia. The group is characterized by 1-pinnate-pinnatifid leaves over 15 cm wide,>5 pinna pairs, equilateral pinna bases, and densely pubescent rachial and costal grooves with erect hairs 0.1 mm long (vs. hairs less than 0.1 mm long and papilla-like in D. cristatum and allies).
