Type Locality: Bolivia, La Paz Dept., San Andres de Machaca.

Vernacular Names: White-toothed Tuco-tuco.

Distribution: W Bolivia and E Peru around Lake Titicaca.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Osgood (1946) suggested that this taxon was distinct at the subgeneric level ( Haptomys ) and sequence analysis is consistant with that suggestion ( Lessa and Cook, 1998). Karyotype has 2n=36 and FN=68 ( Cook et al., 1990).
