Diagnosis. Prothyma (Genoprothyma) rotundatocuprascens is distinguished from the other members of the subgenus by: 1, the oblique lateral band and round subapical band of the elytra.
Description. Size: TL (without labrum) 10.2–12.9 mm (mean = 11.9 mm, n = 13).
Head: ( Fig. 2f View FIGURE 2 ) color shining black; with coppery-red reflections on orbital plates, near pronotum, and basal part of genae; with greenish reflections on apical half of genae; with greenish-blue reflections on vertex and clypeus; surface glabrous, with two setigerous punctures next to eye, one along frontal margin and one dorsally at center; strong longitudinal striae on orbital plates and vertex; strong transversal striae behind the eyes and on neck; striae becoming obsolete on genae, frons, and clypeus. Head as wide as elytra (mean EW/HW = 1.0). Labrum bicolored, ochre-testaceous, margins brownish, black area basomedially, bilobed and extended to the apex on the anteromedian lobe. Labrum of male ( Fig. 14b View FIGURE 14 ) wider than long (mean LW/LL = 1.3); with four setae located near the margin, two lateral and two apical; with two blunt anterolateral teeth and two outward directed thorn-like anterior teeth at the anteromedian lobe, intermediate space slightly bulged. Labrum of female ( Fig. 14c View FIGURE 14 ) slightly wider than long (mean LW/LL = 1.1), with four setae located near the margin, two lateral and two apical; with two blunt anterolateral teeth and two outward directed thorn-like anterior teeth at the anteromedian lobe, intermediate space with a large triangular tooth. Mandibles blackish, with four teeth, small area of base ochre-testaceous. Labial and maxillary palpi testaceous, the last segment shiny black. Antennae slender, reaching posteriorly to the middle of the elytra in males, shorter in females; scape ochre-testaceous; antennomere two black with metallic luster; antennomeres three and four black with metallic luster and with ochre-testaceous part at the apex; scape with one apical seta, the following three antennomeres almost glabrous; antennomeres five to eleven black, dull, finely, and evenly pubescent.
Thorax: Pronotum slightly longer than wide (mean PW/PL = 0.9); sides slightly rounded between the transversal constrictions; glabrous, with shallow transverse wrinkles on disc; shiny black with coppery-red reflections dorsally; transversal constrictions with bluish-green reflections; margins greenish-blue; sternae and episternae glabrous, shiny black; mesepisternum of females with a longitudinal weak furrow in the center.
Elytra: ( Fig. 14d View FIGURE 14 ) slightly more than twice as long as wide (mean EL/EW = 2.1), parallel-sided, with a flattened basal hump, dorsal surface shining black, with coppery-red reflections on the disc, darker towards the suture, bluish-green reflections at the humeral part; elytral testaceous maculation consists of a large humeral dot, a lateromedial dot in the form of an oblique backwards band, and a rounded preapical dot; surface with dense and evenly spaced punctures, shallower towards the apex, becoming confluent and forming grooves near the suture; these grooves covers about the apical third of the elytra, not reaching the tip of the lateromedial spot; apical margin distinctly rounded and restricted towards middle suture, with a tiny sutural spine. Epipleurae black.
Ventral aspect: Venter glabrous, bluish black; trochanter glabrous, coxa, femur, tibia, and tarsi setose; trochanter, coxa, basal half, and apical part of femur testaceous, remainder of legs brownish black; tibia with metallic luster.
Aedeagus: ( Fig. 14e View FIGURE 14 ) in lateral view, basal third very slender, then voluminously expanded and rapidly tapering again towards the apex, tip short and blunt (total length 3.1 mm).
Distribution. BILIRAN.
Remarks. Based on differences in shape of central rugae between eyes, i.e., nearly straight ( Fig. 2a–b View FIGURE 2 ) in P. (G.) hopkinsi , and zigzag ( Fig. 2f View FIGURE 2 ) in P. (G.) rotundatocuprascens ; as well as on differences in shape of subapical band of elytra, round in P. (G.) rotundatocuprascens vs transverse in P. (G.) hopkinsi , and by have short and blunt apex of aedeagus, we raise Prothyma (Genoprothyma) rotundatocuprascens to species status. Although one specimen is labeled “Mindanao” (SDEI), we consider the occurrence of this species on Mindanao unlikely.
