Remarks.
This species is an epibiont of the giant kelp Macrocystis pyrifera ( Ralph and Maxwell 1977), although it can also be found in blocks and by personal observation. It is an incubating species that retains embryos in the gills until they are completely developed.

Magellanic: Strait of Magellan ( Hombron and Jacquinot 1854): Punta Santa María (this record), Carlos III Island ( Aldea et al. 2011a), and Fuerte Bulnes (pers. obs.); Orange Bay ( Rochebrune and Mabille 1889); Malvinas/Falkland Islands ( Melvill and Standen 1907, USNM 2010), and Staten Island ( USNM 2010). WTSA: Rio Grande do Sul ( Morris and Rosenberg 2005, Dias Passos and Magalhães 2011), Uruguay ( Scarabino 2003b), and Buenos Aires Province ( Carcelles 1944). SO: South Georgia Island ( Martens and Pfeffer 1886).
