* Facciolella oxyrhyncha (Bellotti, 1883) —Facciola's sorcerer
Froese & Pauly (2007) erroneously recorded Echelus myrus (Linnaeus, 1758) from Madeira, allegedly on the basis of Leiby in Quéro et al. (1990: 182), which does not, however, include such a record.
Apterichtus sp.
Record based on a photo taken by P. Wirtz at Caniço de Baixo in 20 m depth, at night (figure 2). A. Brito (personal communication, Oct. 2005) tentatively identified this as Apterichtus anguiformis (Peters, 1877) . A specimen is needed to confirm the identification. New record for Madeira.
* Apterichtus caecus (Linnaeus, 1758) —European finless eel
Record based on MMF 25419 and 33856 and a photo taken by Pedro Gomes at Funchal in 14 m depth, at night (figure 3). New record for Madeira.
Ophisurus serpens (Linnaeus, 1758) —Serpent eel
Considered “very rare” by Maul (1949).
