Type species. Idioscopus clypealis ( Lethierry, 1889) View in CoL , by original designation.
Diagnosis. Body small-sized (♂, 3.10–5.50 mm; ♀ 3.30–5.50 mm).
Head wider than pronotum. Crown, pronotum and upper area of face finely transversely rugose or shagreen, anterior and posterior margins of crown subparallel. Face approximately as long as wide or slightly longer than wide. Frontoclypeus with lateral margins convex below antennal ledges, portion below antennal ledges longer than distance from antennal ledges to ocelli; lateral frontal sutures extended nearly to ocelli. Anteclypeus parallel-sided through most of length, broadened distally. Lora small, lateral margin of gena concave. Ocelli placed closer to midline than to corresponding eye. Eyes fairly large. Combined length of mesoscutum and scutellum about as long or longer than pronotum and crown together. Forewing with 4 apical and 2 or 3 subapical cells (may be open basally); appendix well-developed. Hind femur with 2+1 apical setae.
Male genitalia. Male pygofer lobe triangular, in lateral view taller than long, posterior margin angularly round- ed, with basiventral process or not. Subgenital plate slightly curved dorsad, with long hair-like setae on inner margin as well as apex, longer than height of pygofer. Connective with three anterior and two posterior lobes. Style with apophysis curved dorsally, slightly curved laterally near apex, a row of hair-like setae along dorsoapical margin, apex rounded or pointed, slightly tapering posteriorly in lateral view. Aedeagus U-shaped, symmetrical, shaft elongate with one or two pairs of apical processes, dorsal apodeme well-developed, gonopore near apex, dorsal portion of shaft often extended beyond gonopore. Anal segment with well-developed anal collar process.
