4. Pombalia bicolor View in CoL ( A.St.-Hil.) Paula-Souza, comb. nov. ≡ Ionidium bicolor A.St. -Hil. ( Saint-Hilaire 1824a: 253).— Type: BRAZIL. Rio Grande do Sul, “Paturage près de la réduction de S Louis, province des Missions”, February [1821], Saint-Hilaire Catal. C 2-2729 ter (lectotype P 00594929!, designated here by Paula-Souza; isolectotypes MPU 010791!, P 00594930!).

Pignal et al. (2013) state that Saint-Hilaire’s numbers 2000–2260 were collected in 1820 in a short trip from San Pedro de Rio Grande to Montevideo in Uruguay. Nonetheless, a detailed itinerary by Urban (1906) shows that February (the month Saint-Hilaire indicated at the protologue of I. bicolor ) of 1820 had the French botanist collecting in northern Paraná state before reaching Uruguay, and dates the passage of Saint-Hilaire around S. Nicolao (Rio Grande do Sul state) on his way back to Rio de Janeiro in early 1821.
