Type species: Sarotes forcipatus ( Karsch, 1881)
Diagnosis: Laterigrade legs. Eyes arranged in two recurved rows. Chelicerae with 3–4 anterior and 4–6 posterior teeth and several denticles distributed in cheliceral furrow in which the majority of denticles is located near the anterior teeth. Female palpal claw present with 5 to 11 long teeth. Male palp with retrolateral tibial apophysis bifurcated. Conductor membranous, arising from distal part of tegulum. Females with modified epigynal rims. Internal duct system fused along median line, divided into a basal part and a head, situated laterally from the entrance of copulatory ducts into internal duct system. Lobal septum and copulatory ducts distinctly narrow in most species. Glandular appendages situated in anterior part of internal duct system ( Jäger, 1999, Liu et al., 2008, Zhang et al., 2015).
Additional diagnostic characters: RTA arising in most cases at distal or median part of male tibia, dorsal branch in most cases longer than ventral branch (except: S. arboricola spec. nov., S. grandispinosa Liu et al., 2008 , S. mi Chen & Zhu, 2009, S. semicirculata Liu et al., 2008 ), Tegulum widest at median part, Embolus with embolic apophysis (except: S. albofasciata Jäger & Ono, 2002 , S. derivata Jäger & Ono, 2002 , S. hanya spec. nov., S. nuda Liu et al., 2008 , S. parva spec. nov., S. tanikawai Jäger & Ono, 2000 ). Lateral lobes fused (except S. konglor spec. nov., S. separata Zhong et al., 2017 , S. thieu spec. nov.) and in most species with epigynal pockets running from latero-posterior to medio-anterior.
