Figs 2 View FIGURES 2 a–e, 55 c–f

Type material: Holotype: male ( PJ 898 ), MALAYSIA: Sarawak Province : Matang Reserve, Mt. Senapi, 304 m, 25 March to 25 April 1984, C.L. & P. R. Deeleman leg. ( RMNH).

Paratypes: 1 female ( PJ 899 ) with same data as for holotype ( RMNH) . 1 female ( SD 1557 ) with same data as for holotype except: collected in primary forest, 02 January 1984 ( RMNH) .

Additional material examined: (2 subadult males, 5 juveniles): 1 subadult male, 4 juveniles with same data as for holotype ( RMNH) . 1 subadult male, 1 juvenile with same data as for second female paratype ( RMNH) .

Etymology: The species name is a compound word and derived from the Latin word “arbor” meaning “tree” and the Latin word “colere” meaning “to occupy”, referring to the habitat were the species where collected; adjective.

Diagnosis: Males of S. arboricola spec. nov. are similar to those of S. grandispinosa Liu et al., 2008 in having a vRTA longer than dRTA and to S. nuda Liu et al., 2008 in having a tegulum with proximal part narrower than distal part. It is distinguished from S. grandispinosa by 1. smaller body size reaching 3.00 (9.80 in S. grandispinosa ), 2. embolus slightly curved and proximal part nearly as wide as distal part (embolus S-shaped and proximal part four times the size as distal part in S. grandispinosa ), 3. ventral branch of RTA in retrolateral view narrow and curved, dorsal branch in retrolateral view short and tapering (ventral branch in retrolateral view straight and wide, dorsal branch in retrolateral view narrow and rounded in S. grandispinosa ), 4. distal part of conductor rounded (laminar in S. grandispinosa ) and 5. spermophore curved in ventral view (straight in ventral view in S. grandispinosa ); from S. nuda by 1. smaller body size reaching 3.00 (14.90 in S. nuda ), 2. embolic apophysis present (absent in S. nuda ), 3. embolus slightly curved and proximal part nearly as wide as distal part (embolus S-shaped and proximal part three times as wide as distal part in S. nuda ) and 4. ventral branch of RTA longer than dorsal branch, narrow and tapering in ventral view, dorsal branch tapering in retrolateral view and without stiff setae at the base of the RTA (ventral branch nearly as long as dorsal branch, stout and wide in ventral view, dorsal branch curved and with stiff setae at the base of the RTA in S. nuda ).

Females of S. arboricola spec. nov. may be distinguished from all other Sinopoda -species by the combination of the following characters: 1. epigynal pockets extending only in anterior half of epigyne; 2. anterior part of internal duct system narrower than posterior part and 3. lack of glandular appendages.
