Figs 3 View FIGURES 3 a–b, 55 g–h

Type material: Holotype: female ( PJ 1816 ), INDIA: Assam: 1935–1936, Miss M. Steele leg. ( NHM).

Paratype: 1 female ( PJ 1817 , SD 1436 ) with same data as for holotype ( NHM) .

Etymology: The species name is derived from the type locality; adjective.

Diagnosis: Females of S. assamensis spec. nov. are similar to those of S. sitkao Jäger, 2012 , S. semicirculata Liu et al., 2008 and S. undata Liu et al., 2008 in having the internal duct system only fused along half of the median line. They can be distinguished from S. sitkao by 1. spermathecae of S. assamensis spec. nov. twice the size of S. sitkao , 2. lateral lobes only fused in anterior part (totally fused in S. sitkao ) and 3. angle of diverging internal duct system about 40° (about 75° in S. sitkao ); from S. semicirculata by 1. lobal septum in S. assamensis spec. nov. nearly five times as wide as in S. semicirculata , 2. lateral lobes only fused in anterior part (entirely fused in S. semicirculata ) and 3. proximal part of fertilization ducts third times as wide as anterior part (proximal part nearly as wide as anterior part in S. semicirculata ); from S. undata by 1. lateral lobes only fused in anterior part (totally fused in S. undata ), 2. glandular appendages nearly straight (bent at 180° in S. undata ) and 3. proximal part of fertilization ducts three times as wide as anterior part (proximal part nearly as wide as anterior part in in S. undata ).

Description: Female (holotype): Total length 17.90; prosoma 7.40 long, 6.20 wide, anterior width of prosoma 3.80; opisthosoma 10.50 long, 6.10 wide. Eye measurements: AME 0.31; ALE 0.69; PME 0.45; PLE 0.71; AME–AME 0.28; AME–ALE 0.04; PME–PME 0.36; PME–PLE 0.61; AME–PME 0.72; ALE–PLE 0.59; clypeus AME 0.52; clypeus ALE 0.29. Leg formula: 2413. Measurements of palp and legs: palp: 9.80 (2.80, 1.10, 2.80, 3.10); I: 24.40 (6.60, 3.30, 6.90, 5.60, 2.00); II: - (7.90, 3.80, 7.60, 6.10, -); III: 23.20 (6.90, 3.10, 6.30, 5.10, 1.80); IV: 25.20 (7.10, 3.00, 6.70, 6.20, 2.20). Spination: palp: 131, 101, 2121, 1014; legs: Fe I–III 323, IV 331; Pa I–III 001, IV 000; Ti I–III 2026, IV 2126; Mt I 0004, II 1014, III 2016, IV 3036. Cheliceral furrow with 3 anterior and 4 posterior teeth.

Colouration in ethanol: Prosoma light brown, medially with dark brown stripe. Sternum yellow with brown margin. Opisthosoma light yellow with brown dots, the latter more distinct in posterior part, dorsal part with four brown dots, ventral part grey. Chelicerae reddish-brown. Palps yellowish-brown; Mt reddish-brown. Legs brown; Mt and Ta reddish-brown.

Copulatory organ as in diagnosis. Epigynal field wider than long, without anterior bands and slit sensilla. Epigynal pockets running from latero-posterior to medio-anterior. Lateral lobes posteriorly with deep median indentation, antero-lateral margin long and horizontal. Anterior part of lobal septum with median indentation. Vulva longer than wide. Glandular appendages extending only in anterior half of internal duct system, thickened and pointing postero-ventrally. Posterior part of spermathecae wider than anterior part, bulging antero-laterally. Fertilization ducts arising postero-medially.

Male: Unknown.

Variation: Female (PJ 1817, SD 1436): Total length 16.10; prosoma 7.80 long, 6.70 wide, anterior width of prosomsa 4.00; opisthosoma 8.30 long; opisthosoma 2.90 long, 1.95 wide. Measurements leg IV: 28.7 (8.20, 3.10, 7.90, 7.20, 2.30). Spination: legs: Pa I–III 101; Ti II 2226, III–IV 2326; Mt III 3014. Pattern on opisthosoma more distinct.

Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
