Korotnevella leshevi sp. nov.
Diagnosis: length of the locomotive form 28 ‒ 66 µm, breadth 10 ‒ 29 µm, length:breadth ratio 1.6 ‒ 5.1. Single ellipsoid nucleus 6.9 ‒ 9.4 µm in length. Ball-shaped nucleolus, sometimes with a transparent lacuna. The cell surface structures include two types of scales: large basket-shaped scales and small dish-shaped scales. The basket-shaped scales include a basal plate, a closed latticework basket, and twelve vertical columns (two apical and ten lateral columns), extending from the basal plate. Cells form cysts with a wide cyst wall.
ZooBank LSID: urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:50E1426D-E1F5-4822-B264-5DAC2EBA300B ; type locality: freshwater; Leshevoe Lake , Valamo archipelago, Ladoga Lake , Karelia, Russia (N 61° 21 ′ E 30° 55 ′); type material: cells embedded in epoxy resin are deposited with the collection of the “ Centre for Culture Collection of Microorganisms ” ( CCM) GoogleMaps , Saint Petersburg State University , Saint Petersburg, Russia; etymology: the species name leshevi refers to type locality, Leshevoe Lake , from which this species was isolated; DNA sequence data : MW544486 – MW544489 , MW544547 – MW544550 (Cox I gene).
Differences from closely related species: from most closely related species, Korotnevella stella differs most clearly by Cox I gene sequence: the Cox I gene sequence of K. leshevi sp. nov. has a divergence of 8 to 9% from that of K. stella . K. leshevi sp. nov. also has two small differences in the structure of its basket-shaped scales. (1) Basket-shaped scales of the new species have 10 lateral columns, while those of K. stella have 12 or 14 lateral columns. These columns are also relatively short in comparison to the lateral columns of K. leshevi . (2) The basket-shaped scales of K. leshevi have a lower length/ height ratio (average 1.5) when compared to those of K. stella (averages 2.1 for isolate Valamo 7 and 2.2 for isolate Saint-Petersburg).
