Hallé var. dubia(Wernham) N. Hallé (1964: 400).    Type:— DR CONGO. Madibi,  15 April 1907,  A. Sapins.n.( holotype BR[ BR0000008852069]!). Stems villose, with stiff, patent and often reddish hairs ca. 2 mmlong, intermingled on young stems with a dense white felt of appressed woolly hairs. Leaves villose with stiff hairs above (not felted); densely white-felted and sparsely villose at least on the base of the midrib below. Stipules densely villose to very sparsely felted outside. Hypanthium densely villose, with stiff, antrorse hairs. Calyx tube densely villose outside; lobes variable in shape from almost linear, narrowly triangular, broadly elliptic to slightly spathulate, 1.5–3.5 x 0.5–1.5 mm, acute and often bending outwards at apex, densely white-felted and villose at least on the margin outside, glabrous or sparsely villose inside, with short, appressed, stiff hairs. Corolla lobes villose with stiff hairs ( 0.7–1.5 mmlong) intermingled with a short felt of woolly hairs outside. Fruit densely villose, with stiff, patent hairs 1.5–2 mmlong.   Distribution:—Lower Guineaand Congolia Domains. Common and widespread from southeastern Gabonto southwestern DR Congo( Fig. 24), partly overlapping with the range of var. glabrescens.  Habitat and ecology:—Forest-savanna boundaries, young forest regrowth (e.g. along roads and in fallow fields) and woodland; at 300–1050 maltitude.  Phenology:—Flowers collected in all months except July; fruits in January, March and September.  Conservation status:—IUCN Red List Category: Least Concern [LC]. The extent of occurrence is estimated as 239,155.759 km 2and the area of occupancy as 212 km 2. The latter value falls within the limit for Endangered under criterion B2.
