A review of the whitefly genus Aleurocanthus Quaintance & Baker (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) in Australia Gillespie, Peter S. Zootaxa 2012 3252 1 42 [151,439,439,465] Insecta Aleyrodidae Aleurocanthus Animalia Hemiptera 34 35 Arthropoda species schmidti sp. nov.   Etymology.Name in honour of its discoverers Stefan and Olga Schmidt.   Distribution.WA.  Hosts.Unknown.   Material examined. Holotypepuparium slide: [marked], 16.xi.1999, Cape Naturaliste National Park, Australia, WA, 33o 32’S 115o 01’E, S. & O. Schmidt ( ANIC). Paratypes: same data as holotype, 6 xpuparia sharing same slide as holotype( ANIC).   Comments.Although based on only one sample the material available is of sufficiently high quality to warrant description. This species is somewhat similar to  A. laurenaebut differs in the following respects;  A. schmidtihas a more rounded puparium with far shorter glandular spines (5–15 μm) than the more elongate  A. laurenaewith longer (70–90 μm) glandular spines. Whilst the number of glandular spines is somewhat variable in  A. schmidtithe arrangement of the 2 pairs of cephalothoracic submarginal glandular spines anterior to the eye spot separates it from  A. laurenaewhich has 3 pairs. The dorsum of  A. schmidtihas a large number of papillae whilst those of  A. laurenaehave few. The vasiform orifice is situated very close to the margin in  A. laurenae(less than one third vasiform orifice width from margin) whereas in  A. schmidtiit is situated about 1 vasiform orifice width from margin.
