A species with a disjunct range.  Darevskiap.  pontica(Lantz & Cyrén)(regarded a full species by Tuniyev et al.(2011)and Sos et al.(2012))occurs in the Balkans, the western part of the range. South Russiaand W Transcaucasia are inhabited by the nominotypical subspecies. Populations from SE Azerbaijanand N Iranwere assigned to a distinct subspecies, D. p. hyrcanicaTuniyev, Doronin, Kidov & Tuniyev, by Tuniyev et al.(2011).  DISTRIBUTION IN IRAN. Fig. 85. Confined to a relatively small region by the SW Caspian Sea( Ardabiland Gilan Prov.). HABITAT.
