Typespecies.— Cicada guerinii Signoret 1860: 180( Madagascar). Remarks.— Stål (1866)described the characteristic features for what was a subgenus as a head wider than the mesonotum, eyes large, about half the width of the head, well separated from the ocelli, postclypeus swollen with central sulcus, the anterior somewhat prominent, prothorax without larteral part of pronotal collar, very obtuse angle formed on anterior of convex pronotal collar lateral angle, fore wing ulnar cells about as wide at base as apically, fore femora with three spines and small apical spine, carina formed on male tergite 2 intimbal cavity, timbals angled obliquely posteriorly, opercula curved mediad, meracanthus large, triangular, abdominal segments narrowing posteriorly, large dorsal beak on pygofer. Distribution.—The genus has been reported from Madagascarand much of Asia and one species reported from South America (although this is probably a mistake) ( Metcalf 1963b; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Sanborn 2013). Duffels (2011)transferred some species from Sundaland into new related genera.
