Five subspecies have been described under  M. horsfieldii:  M. h. horsfieldii( typelocality: Java), M. h. dryas( typelocality: Andaman Islands), M. h. peshwa( typelocality: India), M. h. jeannei( typelocality: Philippines) and M. h. deignani( typelocality: Thailand) [ 98].
