The taxonomic position of the species was clarified by Beaver (2012). RAB has examined the holotype(IRSNB) of  D. apatoidesfrom Japan, one specimen in NHML from Japan, and two in RAB from Taiwan( Beaver 2012), and compared the latter with the description and photographs of the holotypeof  Taphrorychus striatusNobuchi. Itis clear that only a single species is represented. The species is distinguished from all other species of  Dryocoetiopsexcept  D. salebrosusby the subcostate interstriae on the elytral declivity.
