Typespecies: Ibyacerina caparao, new species
Diagnosis.The new genus is characterized by each forewing with its discoidal cell half as long as its thyridial cell and fork I with a short petiole; in the male, each inferior appendage is 3-branched, similar to a small deer horn; the preanal appendages are digitate and originate from a single base with the mesal process; and tergum X is broad, saddle-like, very sclerotized. Nevertheless, Ibyacerina new genuscan be easily distinguished from other Neotropical leptocerine genera by their unique preanal appendages originating from a single base with a bifurcate mesal process and a very sclerotized and broad tergum X with its apex upturned.
Description. Adult male.Head with pair of dorsolateral sulci; midcranial sulcus present. Ocelli absent. Palps pale with brown and white setae ( Fig. 3B). Antennae long, slender; each with scape robust, 3 times as long as pedicel. Setal warts with brown setae; head with anterodorsal setal warts trapezoidal and fused on midline; dorsal setal warts poorly marked, rounded; posterodorsal setal warts large, approximately oval; posterolateral setal warts barely visible, subtriangular; postoccipital setal warts small, oval in dorsal view ( Figs 2, 3A). Thorax:Pronotum rectangular, anteromesal margin concave; pronotal setal warts subtriangular ( Figs 2, 3A); lateral pronotal setal warts faintly marked, difficult to see. Mesoscutum with a pair of irregular rows of warts, and paired mesoscutellar warts oval, weakly visible. Wings homogeneously brown, without spots or bands. Forewings each with discoidal cell half as long as thyridial cell; cross veins weakly marked; forks I and V present, fork I with short petiole, fork V originating before m-cucrossvein; M 2-branched with short petiole. Hind wings each with forks I and V present ( Fig. 4). Tibial spur formula 0,2,2. Male genitalia. Tergum X conspicuous and very sclerotized. Preanal appendages originating from single base with mesal process. Inferior appendages 3-branched.
Etymology. Ibiya- derived from the indigenous Tupi language, meaning “highland” or “mountain,” and - cerina(substantive female) from the Greek “keros” meaning “antenna,” following the suffix tradition of other leptocerine genera.
