Snizekleg.] [ Coll.I.R.Sc.N.B., don P. Limbourg, I.G.: 32.642] ( RBINS).   DESCRIPTION: Male Measurements ♂: length: 7–8 mm, width: 3.5–4 mm. 9  Body: Laterally convex, bent; totally yellow except, apex of femora and tibiae, tarsi and impressed point on lateral margins of pronotum, underside blackish; club of antennae and underside brownish-black, one malespecimen totally black; shining without metallic reflection. Head: clypeus semicircular and totally reflexed, with, large, close, transversal, ovoid punctures, disc of vertex with large, close, deep rounded punctures, frons impunctate. Antennae with 9 antennomeres, with club slightly longer than funicle.  Thorax: pronotum rectangular, wider than long; sinuate to posterior angle, sides slightly angular in middle; all margins carinate; anterior angles slightly projecting and not reaching posterior margin of eyes; with large, close, deep rounded punctures; scutellar shield subtriangular, slightly with small shallow isolated punctures.  Elytra: longer than wide; epipleura complete; primary costae and intervals slightly convex; all secondary striae irregularly punctate, imbricate-punctate, almost coalescent; striae with a row of small and deep punctures, humeral calli and apical calli slightly marked.  Pygidium: semicircular, carinate along anal plate, not projecting postero-ventrally and not surpassing apex of elytra, strongly punctate with close rounded punctures.  Venter: upper part of metaventrite with rather close shallow horseshoe-shaped punctures, median part with small isolated rounded punctures; 2 ndto 5 thabdominal ventrites with isolated shallow horseshoe-shaped punctures, 6 thwith imbricate puncture.  Legs: protibiae tridentate, larger claw elongate, not ventrally sinuate, slightly shorter than last tarsomere; pro-and mesostarsal larger claw cleft; larger claw of metatarsus twice longer than smaller one and uncleft.  Hairs: dorsal side with rare and isolated short white erected and decumbent squamous setae to apex of elytra, close on pygidium and on outer part of legs; longer erected yellowish separated setae inserted in setigerous punctures along margins of elytra from middle part to apex; yellowish setae on antennae, on canthus and on inner part of legs; underside with decumbent white squamous setae on abdominal ventrites, longer on metaventrite, close and decumbent on posterior margins of prosternum; long erected whitish setae on base of labium; long erected close yellowish setae inserted in setigerous punctures along carinate anal plate.  Aedeagus: in lateral view, parameres rather short with apex narrowed, ventrally strongly sinuate, in basal part dorsally strongly excaved; in dorsal view, base triangular prolonged by a narrow process, apex notched on apico-internal angle. Female Measurements ♀: length: 6.5–8.5 mm, width: 3.5–4 mm. Differs from ♂by: larger; laterally more convex and abdomen convex; antennae with club as long as funicle; pygidium projecting postero-ventrally, surpassing apex of elytra; protibiae narrower and apical tooth rounded and longer.  DERIVATIO NOMINIS. The name is formed from the suffix “ oides” meaning “similar to” and “ calvus”. It refers to the similarity with  A. calvus Ohaus, 1913.   DISTRIBUTION. Known from Kenya.   BIOLOGY. The species was collected in the months of September, November and December.  DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS.    Adoretus calvusoides sp. nov.is similar to  A. calvus Ohaus, 1913but can be distinguished as follows: 10    A. calvusoides sp. nov.  A. calvus( Figs 38–44).  Aedeagus: in lateral view parameres rather short with Aedeagus: in lateral view parameres more elongate apex narrowed, ventrally strongly sinuate, in basal part with apex ventrally curved; in dorsal view, rather dorsally strongly excavated; in dorsal view, base rectangular with asymmetric sinuate sides; apex triangular prolonged by a narrow process, apex triangular notched on apico-internal angle ( Figs 42–43). ( Figs 35–36).  ♂, ♀: overall yellow except apex of femora and tibiae, ♂: rarely totally black; yellow with apical tooth of tarsi and impressed point on lateral margins of protobiae blackish; abdominal ventrites brownishpronotum blackish; club of antennae and ventral side black; ♀: totally yellow. brownish-black. 1999-11-28 RBINS M.
