It is the social parasite of  B. jonellus ,but in the Pyrenees it shows preference for  B. pyrenaeusand secondarily by  B. monticola( Løken 1984, Rasmont 1988). There is a double threat to  B. flavidussince the two main host species have small and declining populations ( Table 2). It was assessed as Least Concern in the IUCN Red List of European Bees (Rasmont et al.2015) and as Endangered (EN) in the IUCN Spanish Red List (Ornosa & Torres 2009), where it is locally less abundant ( Table 2).
