The supraorbital canal traverses from the frontal to the dermopterotic and not to the parietal. The teeth are of intermediate size and sharply pointed. The sculpture on the scales forms one or two large and sharply pointed spines that are postero-ventrad oriented.  REMARKS Heyler (1977) erected the family Igornichthyidaein his text but did not include a diagnosis. The here given diagnosis was compiled and based primarily on Heyler (1969, 1977).
