Frons pruinescence white, brownish gray dorsally; setae dark brown. Antenna dark brown, pruinescence on scape gray. Parafacial pruinescence brownish gray. Maxillary palpus yellow; setae pale yellow. Genal setae white. Occipital setae white becoming lanceolate, appressed dorsally along margin of eye.  Thorax.Macrosetae 3 np, 2 sa, 1 pa, 2 dc, 2 sc. Mesonotum brownish gray; setae black, elongate intermixed with pale gold, lanceolate, subappressed setae. Spermathecal duct (Fig. 351) sac­like posteriorly before becoming thread­like. Variation. Abdomen.Posterior margin dark yellow on tergites 2–4, tergites 5–7 with posterior three­fourths of tergites dark yellow (MEI 042952); posterior margin dark yellow on tergites 2–3; tergites 4–7 with dark yellow posterolateral area (MEI 040182).  Immature Stages.One female (MEI 040871) has been reared from a larva collected at St. James, Montego Bay, Flanders Beach, Jamaicafrom soil.   Distribution Elcaribe obscurusis known from southern Florida and the Dry Tortugas, the Cayman Islands in the West Indies, the DominicanRepublic and Jamaica( Fig. 360).  Habitats and phenology   Elcaribe obscurushas been handnetted in dry scrub and on a variety of plants (  Borrichia frutoscens(L.) DC.,  Citrus aurantifolia(Christm.) Swingle,  Ficus aureaNutt.,  Flaveria linearisLag.,  Ipomoeaspp.leaves,  Lippia nodiflora(L.) Michx.,  Opuntiasp., and cotton blooms) or sweepnetting roadside weeds; at or in light traps (mercury vapor, ultraviolet); in Malaise traps; and in human feces. Adults have been collected from December to August, and October.  Specimens examined  Type specimen.The holotypefemale (MEI 140015) of  Psilocephala obscuraCoquillettis labeled " KINGSTON, JAMAICA" (Type Number 7566) and is in the MCZ.
