M a t e r i a l s t u d i e d. Leaf impressions PA 1152.1–2, 1155.1–5, 1157.1–2, 1184, 1196.1–2, 1341, 1342, 1381, 1582. D e s c r i p t i o n. The leaves are petiolate, lamina broadly ovate, rounded at base, acute at apex to shortly attenuate, double sharply serrate on margin, ca. 80 mmlong and 50 mmwide. D i s c u s s i o n. Leaves from Zichov assigned to Betula brongniartii( Hably et al. 2001)match the birch foliage recovered at Matrý, particularly the strongly double serrate margin. In this way the fossil species differs from the smaller delicate leaves of Betula alboidesENGELH.(syn. B. buzekiiKVAČEK et H.WALTHER) described from the sites at Kundratice and Seifhennersdorf (cf. Kvaček and Walther 1998, Walther and Kvaček 2007).
