Linnaeus 1763 Magnoliopsida Asteraceae Senecio Plantae Asterales Tracheophyta species rigens      Othonna parvifloraLinnaeus,  Mantissa Plantarum Altera: 289. 1771, nom. illeg.  "Habitat ad Cap. b. spei locis aquosis, florens Majo." RCN: 6697.  Replaced synonym:  Senecio rigensL. (1763).    Lectotype(Wijnands, Bot. Commelins: 84. 1983): [icon] "  Jacobaea Africanafrutescens folio longo et glauco" in Commelin, Hort. Med. Amstelod. Pl. Rar. 2: 143, t. 72. 1701.   Note: Linnaeus'protologue for this name included both  Senecio rigensL. (1763)and  O. parviflora P.J. Bergius (1767), which Levyns (in J. S. African Bot.7: 143. 1941) believed to represent different taxa. Wijnands ( Bot. Commelins: 83-84. 1983) has confirmed this through typification,  O. parvifloraL.being homotypic, and synonymous, with  S. rigens(which is the correct name for the species). Wijnands typified  O. parvifloraP.J. Bergiusin the sense of what had been called  O. amplexicaulisThunb. (1800).  Othonna parvifloraL.is a later homonym of  O. parvifloraP.J. Bergius, and illegitimate.
