Gettinger, Donald Insecta Mundi 2016 2016-04-15 2016 478 1 16 3YQM7 (Baker) Baker 1904 [192,539,705,730] Insecta Ceratophyllidae Megabothris Animalia Siphonaptera 7 6 Arthropoda species asio    Typehost:  Megascops asio(Linnaeus, 1758)from NorfolkCo., Massachusetts.  Deposition, host records, and locality: HWML101658,  M. ochrogaster/Station Grounds 2012; HWML101811, 101812, 101813, and 101817,  M. ochrogaster/Station Grounds 2013.   Remarks:This is a common flea of the meadow vole,  M. pennsylvanicus, in eastern North America. Although this flea has been reported from  M. ochrogasterin Illinois( Verts 1961), this is not a common association, so these are important new records. Wilson (1961), collecting from  M. pennsylvanicus, makes it clear that  M. asiois a nest flea, rarely found in high numbers on the body of the host.  Megabothris asiowas the only flea collected from voles.
