Prosthetops Waterhouse, 1879: 533( typespecies Prosthetops capensisWaterhouse, a synonym of Ochthebius megacephalusBoheman). The genus Prosthetopsincludes five previously described species and one new species: P. grandiceps Perkins & BalfourBrowne, 1994, P. megacephalus(Boheman, 1851), P. nitens(Péringuey, 1892), P. pronotus Perkins & BalfourBrowne, 1994, P. setosus Perkins & BalfourBrowne, 1994, and P. gladiator new species. These species are quite limited in distribution ( Figs. 122, 123), and are relatively rarely collected. To date only 155 specimensare known, collected during 24 collecting localities/events. Specimens of four species have been collected from mountain rock pools ( gladiator, megacephalus, nitens, and setosus).
