Abrothallus sp. 3

Notes:—This specimen is similar to Abrothallus ertzii but it shows slightly smaller ascomata which are in average less than 200 μm wide (ascomata of A. ertzii are mostly more than 200 μm wide). Further, the specimen has slightly wider ascospores (in average 4.5 μm vs. 3.5 μm in A. ertzii ). The studied specimen is phylogenetically different from A. ertzii and forms a distinct basal lineage regarding the core of Abrothallus species growing on Peltigerales (not supported).

Material examined: — ITALY. Regione Basilicata, province di Potenza, Parco Nazionale del Pollino, SE Mezzana frido, elev. 1420 m, an Fagus sylvatica , 2010, W. von Brackel (IVL-5491).
