Remarks. Fairmaire (1890) compared A. grandicolle with A. abyssinicum and A. bicarinatum Waterhouse, 1881 . He evidently did not examine A. batesi , as there is not a mere mention of this species in his paper. I tried to separate A. grandicolle and A. batesi , but could find no characters distinguishing the latter two species and I therefore believe they are identical. Gridelli (1940) had long since some doubts concerning validity of A. grandicolle . Kaszab (1981) knew A. batesi from Yemen and Saudi Arabia. Schawaller (1993) reported this species from northern part of Oman. This species shows relatively wide distribution range within the Arabian Peninsula, which supports synonymization of A. grandicolle Fairmaire , a species known only as a single type specimen from Kamaran Island. The latter is a not very large (108 km 2) island in the Red Sea, approximately 2km off the western coast of Yemen. It is a continental ("shelf") island located in the shallow waters of the Arabian Peninsula's continental shelf and is not completely and for long time isolated, unlike e.g. Socotra Island. In my opinion, there is no reason to believe in species level separate of A. grandicolle and A. batesi . Therefore I propose A. grandicolle Fairmaire as synonym of A. batesi Haag-Rutenberg.
Distribution. Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman ( Schawaller 1993).
