Adiantum cajennense Willd. ex Klotzsch, Linnaea View in CoL 18: 552(–553). 1844 [1845].
Range: — Colombia and Venezuela to Trinidad, Guianas, and Bolivia (CO, LP); Paraguay and Brazil.
Ecology: —Rare, terrestrial in lowlands, in evergreen forests; 150–300 m.
Notes: —Closely related and similar to other 2-pinnate species in the A. tetraphyllum group, with species having narrowly lanceolate rachis scales with pectinate bases. Adiantum cajennense has rachises copiously scaly, pinnules with sterile margins conspicuously denticulate-serrate, ca. 3 times longer than wide, 30–45 pairs per pinna, and pinnules abaxially bearing scales on the veins; the indusia also bear scales with pectinate bases.
