TYPE MATERIAL EXAMINED. Syntype ♂: [ A. limbatus, Cat. Mus., Bengale, M. Duvaucel ] [Bengale, Duvaucel] [Collection générale] [Museum Paris, Bengale, Duvaucel] [SYNTYPE] [SYNTYPE Adoretus limbatus Blanchard, 1851 ] ( MNHN).

ADDITIONAL MATERIAL EXAMINED. India: 1♂, 1♀: Madras, Berhampur ( MFNB); 1♀: Cawnpore, 24.i.04, C. S. Betton, 1906-189 ( BMNH); 1♂: Cachin Hills, H. L. Stanton, 97-195 ( BMNH); 1♀: Bengal ( BMNH); 1♂, 1♀: Sikkim, Darjiling ( MFNB) .

Myanmar: 1♂: Shenmaga , 8.vi.1885, Fea ( MFNB) ; 1♂, 1♀: Toungoo ( BMNH) .

Thailand: 1♀ : Siam, 1930, W. R . S. Ladell / Klong Rang Sit, vii.1930 ( BMNH) .

DISTRIBUTION. Known from India (Bengal, India = type locality), Myanmar and Thailand ( ARROW, 1917). A record of the species from Kashmir in KRÁL & SMETANA (2006) seems to be based on a copy error from the catalogues of MACHATSCHKE (1965, 1972) in which the species following A. (A.) limbatus is indeed from Kashmir.

REMARKS. Adoretus castaneus Nonfried, 1891 was described from Borneo ( NONFRIED, 1891), and its identity and status as a synonym of A. (A.) limbatus needs to be reviewed.
