Mount Gibi is a low (607 m) and densily forested mountain on the Gibi Range, 50 km NE of the capital Monrovia. The presence of the new species on this isolated mountain is puzzling.
DERIVATIO NOMINIS. The species is named after Prof. Dr. Rolf Garms, who died on 5th October 2021 at the age of 89. Dr. Garms was foremost amongst experts on blackfly biology and on the transmission and control of onchocerciasis, but was interested in all insects and provided extensive material, especially collected in Western Africa to the ZMH; amonst this material, the newly described species was discovered.
