Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland as Caranx gallus by Peters (1877: 836).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 0.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes eastward to Philippines and New Guinea, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia. Found in coastal waters over coral reefs, entering estuaries, 1–100 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
