Tribe Aleurochitonini
Sampson (1943) proposed this tribe on the basis of a single genus, Aleurochiton (Appendix A). Two of the four studied species of this genus, A. acerinus Haupt and A. aceris (Modeer) (the type-species), were recovered as forming a monophyletic group in this study ( Figures 13 View Figure 13 and 14 View Figure 14 ). Although in the strict consensus trees of MPTs-SAW-MaxCI and MPTs-SAW-MinCI (trees not presented), A. pseudoplatani Visnya also came out with the former two species, A. forbesii (Ashmead) was not recovered with them in the same clade in any analysis. Interestingly, Sampson (1943) erected a new subgenus, Nealeurochiton Sampson , to accommodate A. forbesii , but this was subsequently synonymized with Aleurochiton by Mound and Halsey (1978).
