Basionym. Opegrapha apomelaena A.Massal. , in Krempelhuber (1871: 864).
The species belongs to the genus Alyxoria View in CoL recently resurrected for the Opegrapha varia View in CoL group (Ertz & Tehler 2011), because of its ascus and ascospores types. So far this lichen has been known from the Paleotropics, where it is widespread. It is characterized by an inspersed hymenium and large, mainly 8–12-septate ascospores ( Ertz 2009).
Specimens examined. BOLIVIA. Dept. Santa Cruz: Prov. José Miguel de Velasco, Hacienda Chirapa near Florida, 14°33’22”S, 61°16’03”W, 200 m, lowland Amazon forest, corticolous 16 December 2009, AF 16252.1 & PR (KRAM, LPB).
