Type locality. Korea , most probably South Korea.
Diagnosis. The species is rather variable; body often relatively narrow; antennae can be very long in males projecting beyond elytral apex with 3 antennomeres and a half of 8 th antennomere (fig. 7) or with only two antennomeres ( Fig. 8 View FIGS ); female antennae usually as long as body ( Fig. 9 View FIGS ) or slightly shorter; prothorax transverse with rounded lateral margins; pronotum with regular honeycomb sculpture in males and females, but central pronotal cells often partly obliterated; elytra slightly diverging posteriorly, in females more than in males, from 2.7 to 3.1 times longer than humeral width; anterior elytral margin without black stripe, or it is strongly reduced and not visible from above, or it is quite distinct; central black elytral area often touching scutellum or shortly distant; 5 th male abdominal sternite evenly rounded ( Fig. 12 View FIGS ); penis distinctly wider, less sharpened ( Fig. 10 View FIGS ); parameres short and wide ( Fig. 11 View FIGS ); body length in available males: 12.5–16.0 mm, width at elytral bases: 3.0–4.0 mm; body length in available females: 14.5–16.0 mm, width at elytral bases: 3.9–4.1 mm; according to Hwang (2015), size of beetles: 13–19 mm.
Distribution. Recent publications wrongly regarded all populations eastwards Baykal Lake as A. altajensis coreanus ( Danilevskaya et al., 2009 - from Korea westwards to about Baikal Lake; Ambrus & Tichý, 2017 - China, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea and Russian Siberia; Chen, Liu & Li, 2019 - China, Mongolia, Korea, Russian Siberia; Danilevsky, 2020 - East Siberia, Far Eastern Russia, China, Mongolia, Korea) because real Korean specimens were not known to the most authors. Now I’ve received 14 specimens from South Korea for study (8 males and 6 females) and identify species rank of the Korean taxon. Such specimens definitely absent in Russia. China populations need to be studied. The taxon was recorded for the whole Korean peninsula by Jang, Lee & Choi (2015), but A. altajensis should penetrate into the northern Korean regions along the border with Russia and here it can be mixed with A. coreanus .
