Amicromias thracicus View in CoL sp. n.

( Figs 4–5 View FIGURES 1 – 6 , 22–27 View FIGURES 22 – 34 )

Type locality. Northeast Greece, west bank of river Evros , near Pythion village, alt. ca 50 m.

Type material. Holotype: ♂, ‘NE Greece, west bank of river Evros , near Pythion village, alt. cca 50 m, 24/V/ 2011, sifting of Arundo sp. stems on the soil, G. Kakiopoulos lgt.’ ( MCZR) . Paratype: 1 ♀, the same data as holotype ( GKAG) .

Description. Body length: holotype male 2.34 mm; paratype female 2.53 mm.

Body brownish, pronotum and head with rostrum slightly darker, antennae and legs reddish brown. Elytra with short oval appressed scales, moderately densely covering intervals but leaving narrow space among them, wide rows glabrous ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 22 – 34 ). Pronotum and head with rostrum with similar scales, but slightly sparsely placed than elytral ones, space between two scales about as half of diameter of one scale. Semierect setae on elytra subspatulate, widened distad, rounded at tip, at posterior declivity about as long as half of width of one interval, create one regular dense row on each interval, distance of two setae only slightly longer than length of one seta. Pronotum and head with rostrum with similar setae as elytra, densely scattered, about half the length as elytral ones, visible mainly in lateral view. Antennal scape and entire legs with moderately dense, semiappressed, slender, long oval greyish scales, not concealing integument; antennal funicle with semierect, short, greyish setae; clubs densely finely setose with long, sparse, semierect setae.

Rostrum ( Figs 22, 23 View FIGURES 22 – 34 ) wide and short, 1.38–1.45× as wide as long, widest at base, at base 1.16–1.21× as wide as at apex, from base evenly tapered anteriad with weakly concave sides, pterygia not projecting from outline of rostrum. Epifrons narrow and flat, 0.6× as wide as width of rostrum in midlength. Frons glabrous, short, hardly separated posteriorly from epifrons. Epistome hardly visible. Antennal scrobes dorsally well visible, reniform; laterally very short, distinctly enlarged posteriad, subtriangular, separated from eyes by wide squamose stripe, with dorsal border directed above dorsal border of eyes and ventral border directed below ventral border of eyes. Rostrum separated from head by distinct transverse furrow. Eyes moderately large, distinctly prominent from outline of head; vertex wide.

Antennal scape distinctly curved at midlength, at apical quarter gradually enlarged apicad, at apex weakly narrower than club. Funicle segment 1 1.6× as long as wide and twice as long as segment 2, which is 1.1× as long as wide; segment 3 and 4 1.1× as wide as long; segments 5 and 6 1.3× as wide as long; segment 7 1.6–1.7× as wide as long; club 1.9–2.0× as long as wide.

Pronotum ( Figs 24, 25 View FIGURES 22 – 34 ) wide, 1.41–1.47× as wide as long, widest at basal third to quarter, distinctly more tapered anteriad than posteriad. Disc regularly vaulted.

Elytra ( Figs 24, 25 View FIGURES 22 – 34 ) oval, 1.32–1.38× as long as wide, widest at midlength, shoulders regularly rounded, apex rounded; in lateral view distinctly vaulted. Striae moderately wide, distinctly punctured; intervals flat.

Apex of protibiae rounded, indistinctly enlarged outside, with fringe of sparse, short, fine yellowish setae, longer at outer than at inner part. Tarsi slightly more robust in male than in female, in male with segment 2 1.6× as wide as long; segment 3 1.4× as wide as long and 1.4× as wide as segment 2; onychium 0.9× as long as segment 3; in female with segment 2 1.5× as wide as long; segment 3 1.5× as wide as long and 1.3× as wide as segment 2; onychium 0.9× as long as segment 3; claws solidly fused at basal half.

Abdominal ventrites glabrous, sparsely covered with short piliform appressed setae.

Penis ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 22 – 34 ) dorsally subparallel-sided, at apical third evenly tapered apicad, tip not separated; laterally slender, curved at midlength, evenly tapered apicad.

Female genitalia. Spermatheca lost in dissection. Gonocoxites long, at apical part weakly sclerotised, weakly tapered apicad and broadly rounded at apex, with fine setae, without styli. Sternite VIII with small subtriangular plate with sclerotised basal margin and long and slender apodeme.

Sexual dimorphism. Male is weakly different from female by slightly more robust tarsi (see tarsi description) and slightly more slender elytra with a less widely rounded apical part (elytra 1.38× as long as wide in male and 1.32× in female).

Etymology. The name of the new species, is related to the locality, where the species was found. In the center of the large geographical area, known historically under the name Thrace, which is divided today in three neighbouring countries ( Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey).

Bionomy. The type specimens were found in a small patch of preserved environment, on the bank of a stream which was surrounded on all sides by the houses of the nearby village, by the main road of the area along the river Evros and by intensive agricultural cultivations (mainly cotton and corn).

Differential diagnosis. By the moderately dense, oval appressed elytral scales, the erect subspatulate elytral setae and slender setae at apical part of protibiae, Amicromias thracicus sp. n. is similar to A. apricarius Białooki, 2007 , known from Bulgaria. It is separable from it by the following characters:

1. Elytra oval, with weakly rounded sides, 1.32–1.38× as long as wide. Funicle segment 2 short, 1.1× as long as wide. Onychium 0.9× as long as segment 3. Penis tapered to short tip............................................ A. thracicus View in CoL sp. n.

- Elytra short oval, with distinctly rounded sides, 1.20–1.24× as long as wide. Funicle segment 2 longer, 1.5–1.6× as long as wide. Onychium 1.1–1.2× as long as segment 3. Penis at apex rounded..................... A. apricarius Białooki, 2007 View in CoL
