DIAGNOSIS. Amorbia monteverde is distinguished easily from other members of the group by its darker forewing pattern, absence of a male costal fold, reduced uncus, and absence of dark scale patches near the costa of the FW.
DESCRIPTION. MALE. FW length 8.0–8.4 mm (mean = 8.2; n =10). HEAD: Frons convex, unscaled (membrane white), vertex smooth, light brown. Labial palpus mostly brownish laterally, inner surface beige, 2.0X length between antennae. THORAX: Dorsum smooth scaled, ground light brown, tegula concolorous. FW ground light brown, with subbasal, median, and subterminal fascia darker. Termen not produced. HW white with scattered brown scaling. ABDOMEN: Light brown. Genitalia as in Fig. 90 (slide # JJE05, VBC, Costa Rica, Puntarenas, Monteverde; n = 4 cluthes). Uncus reduced (1.0X length of its base), not extending beyond socii. Transtilla rectangular with numerous spines. Valva subrectangular. Sacculus sclerotized, 0.75X length of valva, emarginate in basal 0.33, with small, terminal lobe extending beyond margin of valva. Aedeagus 0.8X length of valva, straight in basal 0.5, curved in distal 0.5.
FEMALE. FW length 10.2–11.2 mm (mean = 11.0; n = 8). HEAD and THORAX: As described for male. ABDOMEN: Genitalia as in Fig. 111 (slide # JJE06, VBC, Costa Rica, Puntarenas, Monteverde; n = 2). Lamella antevaginalis developed into slightly elongate lateral pockets; median sinus rounded. Ductus bursae 2X length of papillae anales, uniform in width. Ductus seminalis from posterior end of ductus bursae .

DISTRIBUTION AND BIOLOGY. This species has been collected from Costa Rica to Veracruz, Mexico (Fig. 138) from 1000 to 1650 m elevation. It is multivoltine.
IMMATURE STAGES ( Figs.128–129). Eggs are dark green, laid in circular patches of 30–62. Larvae hatched in 11 days (n = 4 clutches) and fed on synthetic diet. Last instars are ca. 2.5 cm in length; the head is tan, with dark brown lateral bands; the prothoracic shield is tan with a wide dark brown band that covers most of the posterior dorsal area of the shield. Development required ca. 7 to 8.5 weeks (JAP 85 E64, 85 E64.2, 88F18, 88F22, 88F59, 96829, 96E21).
ETYMOLOGY. The species name refers to the locality where the holotype and most of the material examined was collected: Monteverde , Puntarenas, Costa Rica; it is treated as a noun in apposition .
