ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 221.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ In Insula Cypro [ Cyprus Island]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype (not a female as given in the description) (MZUF: Box 14): Apodacra Rndn. / cyprica Bellardi / 709 / Cipro / holotype ♂ Apodacra cyprica Rnd., T. Pape det., 1986 / Apodacra cyprica Rnd., T. Pape det., 1986.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Xerophilomyia cyprica ( Verves 1986: 87) ; valid species, as Apodacra cyprica View in CoL ( Pape 1988: 7, 1996: 76).
REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 221) described Apodacra cyprica from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens, from material collected by L. Bellardi, to whom he attributed the species name. Pape (1988: 7) considered the holotype specimen to have been mis-sexed by Rondani.
