Type material. Holotype, ♀ (RMNH), “S. VIETNAM: Dông Nai, Cát Tiên N.P., Lagerstroemia trail; Mal. trap 17–23, c 100 m, 2–9.x.2005, C. v. Achterberg & R. de Vries, RMNH’05”. Paratypes (1 ♀, IEBR): “N VIETNAM: Viet Try nr Thanh Son, Thuong Cuu, 20°59’N. 105°8’N, 350–400 m, 11–16.x.1999, Malaise traps, R. de Vries, RMNH’99”.
Diagnosis. Head very transverse in anterior view, with a row of small rounded teeth near each eye, the tooth near eye only slightly larger than the rest; clypeal margin with small median projection ( Figs 30 View FIGURES 25 – 30 , 32 View FIGURES 31 – 34 ); each funicular segment with one row of sensilla; clava brown ( Figs 12 View FIGURES 7 – 12 , 34 View FIGURES 31 – 34 ); distal tooth of mandible sharp ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 25 – 30 ). Mesosoma flattened; fore coxa basally dark, mid and hind coxae pale yellow, the latter with a small dark spot basally; fore wing hyaline ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ). Metasoma dorsally brown except small pale basal depression.
Description. Holotype female, body length: 1.5 mm. Colour ( Figs 12 View FIGURES 7 – 12 , 34 View FIGURES 31 – 34 ): head in anterior view dark green; vertex dark olive green; eyes reddish, ocelli whitish; scape reddish yellow, paler proximally and ventrally; pedicel reddish-yellow, dorsally darker; flagellum uniformly brown; mandible reddish-brown, teeth brown. Mesosoma dark olive green except bluish propodeum; wings hyaline; tegula and venation brown; fore coxa basally dark, mid and hind coxae pale yellow, the latter with a small dark spot basally; trochanters pale yellow; fore femur brown, mid and hind femora yellow, paler basally and slightly brownish dorsally; tibiae yellow; fore tarsus light brown, mid and hind tarsi yellow, tips brown. Metasoma dorsally brown, hind margins of tergites darker; first tergite with a small yellowish depression at base; ventral side of metasoma and ovipositor sheaths brown.
Head very transverse in anterior view, with a row of small rounded teeth near each eye, the tooth near eye only slightly larger than the rest; vertex not high, slightly arched between posterior ocelli; gena strongly receding towards mouth, not hollowed at mouth corner ( Figs 30 View FIGURES 25 – 30 , 32 View FIGURES 31 – 34 ); temple very short; occiput slightly emarginate ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 31 – 34 ); clypeal margin with small median projection ( Figs 30 View FIGURES 25 – 30 , 32 View FIGURES 31 – 34 ); each funicular segment with one row of sparse sensilla ( Figs 12 View FIGURES 7 – 12 , 34 View FIGURES 31 – 34 ); distal tooth of mandible sharp ( Figs 30 View FIGURES 25 – 30 , 32 View FIGURES 31 – 34 ). Relative measurements— length: 18; width: 42; height: 26; POL: 10.5; OOL: 8; eye height: 16; eye length: 14; malar space: 8; mouth width: 16; distance between clypeal margin and toruli: 22; scape length: 19; pedicel length: 5; pedicel width: 3; pedicel plus flagellum: 45; F1 length: 5; F1 width: 3; F6 length: 5; F6 width: 4; clava length: 12; clava width: 4.
Mesosoma flattened; mesoscutum flat, scutellum only slightly arched ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ); propodeum finely reticulate, alveoli very small ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 31 – 34 ); fore wing with basal cell bare, open below; basal vein pilose; ventral side of costal cell with one row of hairs and a few additional ones in distal part; speculum reaching parastigma; stigma elongated. Relative measurements—length: 38; width: 30; height: 21; mesoscutum length: 15; scutellum length: 13; scutellum width: 14; propodeum length: 6; fore wing length: 88; fore wing width: 40; M: 19; S: 9; P: 20.
Metasoma almost round; dorsal side of first tergite with a small round depression at base; ovipositor sheaths barely visible in dorsal view ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 31 – 34 ). Relative measurements—length: 45; width: 37; length of first tergite: 13; distance from base of metasoma to tip of hypopygium: 20.
Variability. The female paratype has the head in anterior view more bluish, the metasoma almost twice as long as wide and the stigma less elongated.
Distribution. Vietnam.
Hosts. Unknown.
Etymology. From the Latin “ tuberculatus ” (tuberculate), which refers to the numerous rounded teeth present on the head.
Comments. Apsilocera tuberculata belongs to a group of species having distinct teeth in the upper part of the head. This species most closely resembles A. dentata , but differs mainly in having the head very transverse in anterior view, and a different shape of clypeus ( Figs 30 View FIGURES 25 – 30 , 32 View FIGURES 31 – 34 ).
