Atrichopogon (A.) argus Kieffer, 1916 View in CoL

( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 A, 1G, 1N, 2A)

Atrichopogon argus Kieffer, 1916a: 86 View in CoL (short description of female, 3 syntype females from Chip – Chip and Tainan); 1916b: 115 (record of a female from Paróe).

Diagnosis. Female eyes bare; proximal flagellomeres cylindrical; paratergite with 1 seta; scutellum with 4 bristles. Bases of setae on scutum with dark dots.

Description. Female. Eyes bare, broadly fused along the distance of 6 ommatidia. Flagellum very long, proximal flagellomeres cylindrical ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 G), AR 2.65. Teeth of mandible small, about 40. Palpus 5– segmented, PR 2.69 ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A). Setae of scutum with dark dots at bases. Scutellum with 4 bristles. Paratergite bearing 1 seta. Wings 1.56 mm long, CR 0.78, macrotrichia numerous in all cells; second radial cell 4.4 times longer than first ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A). Halter knob yellow. Legs yellow. TR (I) 2.7, TR (II) 3.1, TR (III) 2.4. Seminal capsule single, ovoid, with short neck ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 N), 0.120 mm long.

Male unknown.

Material examined. Types not preserved. The single female determined by Kieffer and preserved in SDEI is from Paróe. It is labeled as follows: Paróe, nördl. Paiwan-Distr. ( Formosa), H. Sauter VIII.1912, Atrichopogon argus K., Kieffer det.

Discussion. Syntypes from Chip – Chip and Tainan, stored in Budapest, were destroyed in the 1956 fire. The female examined here was collected in Paróe ( Kieffer 1916b) and does not belong to the type series. It was determined by Kieffer and agrees well the original description of A. argus ( Kieffer 1916a) . Blech & Rohlfien (1987) did not include the species in the catalogue of types preserved in SDEI.
