Austrochlamys natans (Philippi, 1845) Fig. 7F
Material examined.
1 spm (7.1 × 6.5 mm).
Synonymy.
See Dell (1971).
Remarks.
Dell (1971) concluded that this species inhabits fronds of the giant kelp Macrocystis pyrifera and that juveniles present a thin shell that is semitransparent, due to an adaptation to this environment. In relation to its comparative morphology, it can be differentiated from Zygochlamys patagonica because of its globular, delicate shell and wider radial cords ( Zelaya 2009b).
Distribution.
Magellanic: Punta Gaviota and Carlos Island ( Dell 1971); Strait of Magellan ( King and Broderip 1832): Punta Santa Ana (this record), Dawson Island ( USNM 2010), and Carlos III Island ( Aldea et al. 2011a); London Island ( Pelseneer 1903) and Puerto Williams ( Dell 1971).
