Material examined. BATANG HARI DRAINAGE: ZMA 101.457 (3), 107.1±193.4 mm SL. ZRC 38547 (2), 36.2, 67.3 mm SL. ZRC 38633 (1), 108.4 mm SL. ZRC 41533 (1), 145.2 mm SL. ZRC 41897 (1), 169.2 mm SL.
INDRAGIRI DRAINAGE: ZRC 39034 (1), 101.9 mm SL.
Remarks. Roberts (1989) commented that B. macracanthus fed mainly on plant detritus; however, Zakaria-Ismail (1992) observed that B. macracanthus could be caught by hook-and-line baited with earthworms. Our observations of captive specimens in aquaria and other aquarium literature (e.g. Finley, 1995) indicates that B. macracanthus prefers to feed on aquatic invertebrates such as chironomid larvae (bloodworms) rather than on plant detritus.
