Examined specimens: — AMERICA: Mexico. Bartholomew B. 3485 (0371998 KUN!, 01393429 PE!), Cortes L. 415 (01393430 PE!), Munn-Estrada X. 583 (255770 USF!), Croat T. B. & Hannon D. P. 62968 (258245 USF!). ASIA: China, Qiu B. Y. 781399 (0371995 KUN!), Anonymous. s.n. ( KUN 0371997 About KUN KUN!). Vietnam, Bois D. s.n. ( Begonia glutinosa Kiew , holotype, P00539150 , P!; isotype, P00539151 , P!, P00539152 P!, other material, P00539149 P!, P05618172 P!), Anonymous. s.n. ( P05618173 P!) .

Notes: —After thorough investigation of living plants of B. wallichiana in the greenhouse of Kunming Botanic Garden ( S. Radbouchoom 24, KUN; Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ) and the type materials of B. glutinosa (holotype, P 00539150, P! & isotype, P 00539152, P!) we noted the following.

The diagnostic characters of B. wallichiana and B. glutinosa were shared on the living plant and type specimens ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ; Smith et al. 1986, Doorenbos et al. 1998, Kiew 2007). Thus, we confirmed that B. glutinosa is a new synonym of B. wallichiana . Here, the collection information (cultivé aux serres du Museum) also reveals that B. wallichiana in Begonia sect. Doratometra is an introduced species instead of a native species in Vietnam. Additionally, some American species of Begonia have been reported to be introduced and naturalized to Ceylon of Asia, such as Begonia hirtella Link (1822: 396) , B. humilis Aiton (1789: 353) in B. sect. Doratometra , Begonia cucullata var. hookeri Smith and Schubert (1941: 104) in B. sect. Begonia (1859: 123) and Begonia ulmifolia Wild. (1805: 418) in B. sect. Donaldia (Klotzsch) A. DC. (1859: 127) ( Gagnepain1921, Doorenbos 1975, Dassanayake et al. 1983, Ho 1991, 1999).
