Type material: holotype NMSA W7553 About NMSA / T2643 ; paratype NMSA W7628 About NMSA / T2645 ; 2 additional paratypes in private collection.
Type locality: South Africa, off Durban , 300 m. [ Aiken (2010) however said the specimen that later became the holotype had been "trawled north of Durban in 150–300 m "] ( Fig. 5) .
Remarks: The holotype is very worn and rather unrecognizable as a Belomitra , but was probably chosen as the holotype because it is a complete shell with a protoconch; by contrast, paratype 1 has a broken apex, but it is in much better condition and shows a sharp sculpture typical of Belomitra , with the characteristic subsutural ramp. The two specimens come from the same general area off Durban, and their direct examination has convinced us that they are conspecific.
