Bradyporus (Callimenus) macrogaster skopjensis View in CoL n. ssp.: Karaman 1961: 115.
Callimenus macrogaster skopjensis Karaman, 1961 : Ebner & Beier 1964: 65; Harz 1969: 619 as syn. of C. macrogaster longicollis .
Bradyporus (Callimenus) skopjensis Karaman, 1961 View in CoL : Ünal 2011: 6, as a syn. of B. (C.) macrogaster longicollis .
Type locality. N. Macedonia, Skopje. Syntypes male ( ZZDBE sensu Cigliano et al. 2017).
Material examined. Macedonia: Ržaničave, Scopje, 2.7.1954, 5 males, 2 females ; Ržaničave , 2– 5.6.1954, 1 female (topotypes) ( NHMUK).
Distribution. ( Fig. 194 View FIGURE 194 ). Known only from the type locality. Macedonia: Skopje: Ržaničave, Trubarevo ( Karaman 1961); S. Serbia [now Macedonia]: Skopje ( Ebner & Beier 1964).
Description of female. Head large and wide, slightly wider than pronotum in dorsal view. Pronotum ( Figs. 159–160 View FIGURES 149 – 160 ) long with sharp and raised lateral carinae slightly converged in metazona; prozona slightly shorter than metazona and depressed in the middle; metazona raised, with 4 distinct tubercular folds and one weaker in the middle; anterior margin of pronotum straight, posterior margin slightly concave with 3 very weak incisions placed at the end of the inner tubercular folds; in lateral view prozona very high, metazona low; 1.8 times longer than its height; metazona and anterior edge of prozona raised ( Fig. 159 View FIGURES 149 – 160 ). Tegmina fully concealed under pronotum. Subgenital plate ( Fig. 72 View FIGURES 65 – 80 , 88 View FIGURES 81 – 96 ) almost as long as wide, clearly narrowed to apex; posterior margin with 2 large spines, with wide incision between them; basal part with a distinct stout spine on both sides; basal pits long. Cercus ( Fig. 56 View FIGURES 49 – 64 ) long and narrow, not conical, blunt at apex, 1.6 times longer than wide, with a large basal lobe. Ovipositor ( Figs. 104 View FIGURES 97 – 104 , 159–160 View FIGURES 149 – 160 ) quite long, only 1.06 times shorter than hind femur; ventral valve with a row of irregular 6–7 apical teeth; upper and lower valves distinctly divergent at apex; basal projection of lower valve ( Fig. 120 View FIGURES 113 – 128 ) narrow triangular, pointed at apex.
Coloration. Body creamish-brown and black. Dorsal surface of head and abdomen, prozona black; ventral half of head creamish-brown, behind of eye in lateral view with dense and distinct black spots. Paranota blackened in dorsal part anteriorly; metazona creamish-brown, posterior folders and lateral carinae with black stripes along their length. All legs creamish-brown with distinct black spots; tibial spines brownish. In lateral view ventral half of abdomen, including sternites unicolor creamish-brown. Subgenital plate creamish-brown, its spines with black tips. Ovipositor mainly creamish-brown, its base and apex blackened, dorsal carina with black stripe along its length in dorsal view.
Measurements (mm). Length of body: male 50–64.5, female 75; pronotum: male 15.5–19, female 20.3; hind femur: male 20–23, female 26.1; ovipositor: 25.2 (male from Karaman 1961).
Remarks. This species was given as a synonym of B. macrogaster longicollis by Harz (1969) for the first time. All the subsequent authors followed Harz. A good series collected from the type locality, Skopje, was examined in the present study. The shape of titillator and other morphology given in the key and figures are distinct and easily separate it from B. macrogaster longicollis as well as the other species. Its distribution may be restricted to small areas, like the Anatolian B. conophallus and B. sureyai , that should be determined.
This taxon was erroneously given at species level for the first time by me ( Ünal 2011: 6). It is now consciously raised to species status here after the present comparative study.
The female of this species is described here for the first time from its type locality.
Although there is not enough data about its distribution and population densities, it is known only from Skopje and probably very rare. It should be in “Data Deficient” status in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species for now, but probably at least in “Endangered” status.
